It's so funny. You'd think after doing this work for twenty years my answer to that question would be an unequivocal, "Yes! Of course it works!" But once in a while the Universe gives me a lesson to remind me first-hand that when feng shui is applied to a space correctly, it does indeed free up the energy that brings positive changes into our lives. Yes indeed, even the "Feng Shui Lady" needs a lesson from time to time. Here are two stories I'm going to tell on myself and my own personal experiences with feng shui in my own home.
A while back I got a bouncing, barking, baby puppy. He was so cute and at the same time so much work. Just like any baby, my puppy went through a chewing stage. Anything he could sink his little chompers into was fair game for a chew toy. Because of his prolific chewing activities, I decided that the electrical cords in one particular area of my home posed a potential deadly threat to my ever-curious puppy. To protect him I put a metal "puppy gate" around the area where the majority of the cords were. When I did that I didn't stop to think about what "feng shui area" this part of the house was. I just plopped the puppy gate down and forgot about it.
A couple of months passed. My time had been consumed with taking care of my very active puppy and putting the final touches on my book before it went to press. During this time I noticed that my income started declining. Yes I know all about the current state of the economy, but this was different. This was an unusual dip in finances that was starting to move past a "dip" and was becoming more of a canyon. I started getting worried. Then I thought, "If I were my client, what would I tell myself?" The answer was, "Look at the southeast (wealth) sector and see if anything is going on there that shouldn't be." My wealth sector happens to fall in the exact location where I had placed the puppy gate a couple of months ago (around the same time my finances became stressed.) You see, growing wood (i.e. a healthy plant) is the needed element for the southeast meridian. In the Chinese 5 Element Cycle, Metal (the puppy gate) energetically destroys the needed element (wood). When I realized that I had placed the metal gate in the area where metal was the worst element, I removed it immediately (luckily the puppy was past his chewing stage by then). Sure enough, within a week finances began to improve and in a couple of weeks were back to where they were before the " Puppy Gate Incident".
The next story I'm going to tell on myself is similar to the one I just mentioned, only this time it has to do with the north (career) sector. My career sector (the north meridian) falls exactly in my guest bathroom, which is fine, because water is the main element for career energy. In feng shui, when we add water to an area we need to make sure the water is circulating. This is why a table top fountain is so ideal in the north. That said, for almost ten years my live-in boyfriend used that bathroom as "his" bathroom. The daily use of that bathroom kept the water circulating and there was no need for a fountain. During that time my career had really taken off. I had more appointments than I could book, starred in a television series, and had risen to the top of my field. Then three years ago we came to the decision to go our separate ways. He moved out and the guest bathroom went back to being a guest bathroom and was only used very occasionally. Truth be told, during that time my career had begun to stall. Big contracts were fewer and farther between, class sizes got smaller and the frequency of my appointments went from sometimes up to three in a day to sometimes three in a week. I blamed it on the economy and kept plugging away, "hoping" it would get better.
Finally (I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes), like the incident with the puppy gate, I decided to look at my home the way I would with a client. Was there anything amiss in my career area that I had overlooked or unthinkingly changed? Then it dawned on me. My career started slowing down shortly after my boyfriend moved out. The guest bathroom went from being used every day to being used maybe once a week. As a result, the water in that area became stagnant instead of circulating. A lightbulb went on in my head. (DUH!) I needed to put a fountain in that bathroom as soon as possible. Guess what? Within two weeks after I put the fountain in that bathroom, my career went into the stratosphere! Suddenly my appointment book was full, big contracts were once again flowing in, and I was back to where I was three years before. If only this had dawned on me sooner!
I know what you're thinking...the "Feng Shui Lady" should have known this all along, but the truth of the matter is that we all get used to the way our houses are. We place something (or remove something) without thinking of its impact on the overall energy of the feng shui our home. I also think there is a deeper meaning here. In order for me to be able to help my clients, I MUST know that what I do has truth and validity. My experiences in my own life and in my own home are true testimonies to the power of feng shui!
To keep your home on its feng shui toes, be sure to pick up a copy of my book, "Feng Shui that Makes Sense, Easy Ways to Create a Space that FEELS as Good as it Looks". Take it from me, this stuff really works!!

Brighten Your Life With These Living Room Color Ideas
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lin_Mai]Lin Mai
No matter what you call it, whether it be the T.V. room, family room or lounge room, when we refer to the living room we are talking about the room in which you spend the most time together as a family.
As this is an important room to your family members, it's interesting to note that the arrangement of objects, furniture and even your living room color ideas can have a large effect on the moods of the people who spend the most time here.
It can also be affecting the health and wealth of the people in your home.
Does your living room depict a place of hospitality and peace? Do members of your family and visitors feel happy and comfortable or do they feel agitated and tense?
With feng shui, we can create a harmonious living room that supports and nourishes those that live there.
In this article we'll discuss some general living room color ideas and see how it affects people. In feng shui, the color of your living room walls plays a big influence. There aren't set colors in feng shui that you have to use. It is important that your own unique style and tastes are taken into consideration when choosing a color for your walls.
It doesn't have to be just about paint or wallpaper either. It could be a large hanging painting or tapestry for example. Anything that covers your walls.
Color can have a direct influence on the energy of a room. We need to make sure that energy is good and positive. The 'safe' living room color ideas to cover your walls in feng shui would be beige or white.
Too much white can be too yang. In order to add some yin to the room, you can add a splash of color in the decor or furniture of the room to balance out the energy a little.
Even having a feature wall of yin color can help to balance out the energy. Lighting and mirrors are also excellent resources to help with the balance of energy.
If we consult the five elements, we know that shades of white are more earth colors. The earth colors will make your room look brighter and feel more cozy and inviting. It will also give your family a sense of security and stability.
Not only that, but the brightness of the white shade will help to magnify and echo back the positive energy of the room.
The opposite effect is the result of dark colors such as red and blue on the walls of your living room. You may feel an indirect sense of tension, insecurity and even feel threatened by such colors without knowing exactly why.
This intense energy can take its toll on you mentally and physically, more so over time.
When you're deciding on your living room color ideas, here's a tip: If you think of a scale of color with white being at one end and black at the other, then if the color you like is more towards white, than black, then that's a good color to use. If it's too dark, maybe consider the pastel version of your favorite color.

Some Misconceptions About Feng Shui
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bonnie_Moss]Bonnie Moss
The ornaments of our house are the friends that frequent it..... Ralph Waldo Emerson
Feng shui invaded the Western world like wild fire decades ago. Volumes of books were printed, experts were coming out everywhere. It is an ancient art of placement. It is not a cure-all that will magically rid your environment of all negative energies, solve relationship conflicts, find the ideal career path, cure financial difficulties and bring to reality dashed hopes and dreams.
I am guilty of clutter- when I first heard of feng shui, my space was a big disappointment. All I can see was clutter, clutter and more clutter everywhere. I bought a book, some relatives and friends added to my growing collection of materials, books and cd's to boot and the internet. Armed with the tools and new knowledge about this magical art of placement, I tackled the ambitious endeavor of de-cluttering... the first step to apply this precious new tool to my life and home.
Years later, my space went through a major re-arrangement, which in truth was just moving " clutter" from one direction to another. Remember, armed with a compass, I re-discovered the role of the 4 Elements, Earth, Water, Fire and Air( feng shui has a 5th- metal). I familiarized myself with the areas of life that this new magical tool deals with. My common sense told me that I could not tackle all the areas at once. BUT- an expert would run you through these in one consultation session, if you are being cheap. I've heard this from people I know who enlightened them with the tools they needed to improve their life, their home environment and bring them career and financial success. But, sad truth, nothing changed- life, home, career, finances and relationships pulsated away as usual.
Into the 21st century, feng shui still is written about, there are new disciples and gurus. There are numerous sites on the web and volumes of books on this topic. There is a compass direction for the areas of life, relationships, career, finance, travel, children etc.- depends on which school of feng shui is at work.
What I fail to notice is the analysis of the who and what is the person like? The financial area can be analyzed, complete with the props feng shui recommends for that area. But- what is the attitude of this person towards his/her career. Is there evidence of smart money management- like no maxed out credit cards, does not subscribe to retail therapy, lives within their financial means. Or is there a preference for the good life with a taste for high-end goods, living beyond their means?
Does the person exude positive energy? It is difficult to apply the principles of feng shui to one with a negative attitude, or is a skeptic. The intention to apply this in one's life has to be genuine. This art does not just address the material and physical needs. It deals with balance- the elements within one's space has to be balanced and in harmony. Too much fire in the bedroom or relationship area can encourage love or passion, but, it can also bring conflict. Do you believe in balance- that moderation is an important aspect of life? Can you look deep inside and deal with your demons? We all have them.
There is a spiritual side to feng shui. It encourages one to see beyond the physical and material world. It raises awareness to forces outside and beyond this physical world. How often is this aspect written about? Applying this ancient art to one's life means a dedication and a commitment. Keeping the harmony in your space is an on-going endeavor. It is about showing respect to one's space, honor it by keeping it reasonably tidy. You may have all the elements balanced, but it is more important that you believe in balance in all areas of your life, that you are at peace and in harmony with the world around you. What is the point to applying this art of placement to your space if you are a workaholic and you are never home?
Feng shui is not a cure-all. Any undertaking in this life starts with the person, goes deep into the core of one's being. It can help hone the good qualities in a person, perhaps awaken these in a skeptic or a negative person. Ultimately, the goal is that positive energy will radiate around the home, in every nook and cranny with the right intention and attitude.

Feng Shui Wealth Enhancers For Dragon Year 2012-13!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Peter_Allsop]Peter Allsop
In Feng Shui, various materials and objects can function as money-magnets or 'Wealth-Attractors' as they are more formally termed. The following article considers a number of these.
Mineral Money Magnets!
Animal and Element!
Gem, Crystal and Mineral money-magnets (wealth-attractors in Feng Shui terms) include Diamonds. Classified Yin Metal, in 5 Element/'Wuxing' Theory, these also symbolise the wealth associated with Water, 2012-13 Year Element. The Year Animal, the Dragon, is also associated with wealth (see below)! Quartz, Yin Metal, too, magnifies and amplifies energies of materials displayed alongside it. The Feng Shui principle of 'resemblance' means other minerals can also lend a hand here.
Diamonds and Crystals.
In Feng Shui, whilst Diamonds are classed as Yin (hidden) Metal, glass and plastic Copies (even photos etc) work as well as the 'Real Thing'. Quartz crystals in particular (also Yin Metal in 5 Element terms) or plastic copies enhance the energies and effects of other crystals they are displayed alongside. Herkimer Diamonds, quartz of a particularly pleasing variety, can function as both energy amplifier and wealth-attractor!
Location
From a 5 Element perspective, Dragon Year (2012-13) Yang Water Year Element, has strong associations with wealth. Diamonds (and Quartz) are considered Yin Metal, fortunate for those wishing to profit from their inherent attributes, as Metal produces/supports Water in Feng Shui. Diamonds and similar mineral 'wealth attractors' should be displayed/positioned appropriately. Use the N.W. sector of particular locations for this purpose.
'Resemblance'
This principle explains why real Diamonds are not essential and why glass or plastic ones work just as well (even pictures or photos of diamonds). These are obviously cheaper to acquire! Some large plastic Diamonds, strategically located at home, were obtained fortuitously from a defunct store promotion. An actor-friend supplied more from old stage-props, plus some very convincing fake Gold-bullion bars (Gold and Silver are 'Soft' Yin Metals).
Related Mineral money-magnets include iron-pyrites and Citrine, aka the "merchant stone", which, bringing good business-luck, abundance, fortune and wealth, is a potent wealth enhancer. The principle of resemblance (to Gold) applies in both cases
The 3-Legged Toad aka 'Money Frog'
The Money Frog, or "Chan Chu" in Chinese is a most auspicious money-making aid. Position it near cash registers, receptions, work desks and Piggy Banks etc.
The Dragon
In Feng Shui, the Dragon is most auspicious and magnificent, mightiest of creatures. For Millennia symbolising power, abundance and good fortune, the Dragon generates healthy 'Sheng Qi' bringing good fortune into homes, lives and workplaces. A small golden metal version can be a wealth-attracting Money-Dragon, attracting wealth and prosperity to your home or business.
Gold Ingots and Bars
Gold Ingots or "Yuen Bao" were used as currency by high officials and Emperors in ancient China. In Feng Shui terms, Gold bars and ingots are very auspicious wealth-attractors-fortunately the principle of 'resemblance' means that plastic copies can be as effective as the 'real thing'.
Old Chinese Coins tied together with red string or fabric (via the square hole conveniently provided in their centre) may also encourage the flow of prosperity into your life.
Buddha Figures
In Feng Shui Buddha brings good fortune and blessings to the home or business.
Pa Kua or 'Feng Shui' Mirrors
You can improve the energy flow around your home or business with an octagonal Pa Kua, with a mirror in its centre. This should be placed strategically in a window or above a door, looking outwards into the wider environment--not facing indoors!
Applications
So, Feng Shui tips for 2012-13? Display some (fake) diamonds on your desk or work-top. Add Feng Shui coins, a Three-Legged Toad, some fake Gold, Pyrites or Citrine, enhanced, if possible, with some quartz crystals! The North West Wealth Sector of rooms and dwellings is the obvious display-location. Dragons can also be placed in the East.
Things to avoid? Dragon Years can be extremely volatile and Water the Year Element can represent the Emotions as well as Wealth. An element of caution needs to be built into your wealth-seeking this year,to ensure you don't get carried away by Dragon Year energies and events.

Creating Good Bedroom Feng Shui
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Binns]Linda Binns
I've talked quite a bit about bedrooms in the past and how important they are. Your bedroom is the room that is closest to you and has the biggest impact on you and all areas of your life. It has a very big impact on your health and energy, and it reflects your level of comfort and satisfaction with yourself and your life.
It is important that you love your bedroom and everything in it and that it is kept clutter free. There are many other aspects of your bedroom that you may not have considered but they are very important, so I'd like to cover a few of them here.
Books in the bedroom - many people like to read before they go to sleep. I certainly do. But it's also a good idea to really consider what types of books you're reading before you go to bed. Each book has different energy attached to it, such as the subject matter and even the energy of the author. I've said before that everything is alive with energy, and that includes books.
Be careful about reading books that are about violence, tragedies or have sad endings. They can affect your sleep or even, on a deep sub-conscious level, begin to affect your health or your relationships.
It's not a good idea to keep too many books in the bedroom. Just have the one that you're currently reading, or one that you like to refer to. A bookcase full of books in the bedroom brings too much energy to a space that needs to be calm.
Don't treat it as an office or exercise room - the energy of the bedroom is about sleep and it's about relationships - your romantic relationship, as well as your relationship with yourself. It is your most personal space and the energy should be very calm and it should represent your relationship (or the one you'd like to have). When you bring in the energy of work and/or exercise you are bringing in energy that is very active, which will interfere with your sleep, your health,, your relationship and your life generally. It can very quickly create a sense of overwhelm.
There is also a lot of stress that can be associated both with work and with exercise. With work, you may feel as though you can never 'switch off.' You always have work on your mind - of course you will if you don't have a personal space where you can detach from it. You are bringing in your work energy - the energy of your day at work - into your bedroom. This is a recipe for even higher levels of stress.
As far as exercise is concerned, again, this is very active and not the right energy for a bedroom. It is often something that you feel you 'have' to do, rather than want to do (pressure). It may even be something that you feel you 'should' be doing but are not, in which case you are being surrounded with the energy of guilt and even failure.
Don't overdo the furniture - you'll want to have plenty of space around the bed and to make sure that you don't have too much furniture in the room. Allow the energy in the room to circulate freely (including underneath the bed). Allow the room to breathe. If you like big, heavy, dark furniture, make sure the room is an appropriate size to accommodate it. You don't want the room to feel crowded or overwhelmed with furniture. Overall, you don't want your bedroom to be too dark (except at night when you turn the lights off).
Generally speaking, lighter woods and other natural materials are best for beds and bedroom furniture. Avoid metal beds because they can conduct electro-magnetic fields.
Think about where the furniture came from as well. If it was given to you by somebody else, or is left over from a previous relationship, think about the energy that it is carrying related to that person and your relationship with them. Is that energy positive and supportive? If not, you'll want to consider replacing it when you can.
These are just a few simple tips that can help you turn your bedroom into a personal sanctuary that supports you in all ways.

Feng Shui Love Tips For The Bedroom
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Aviles]Linda Aviles
Not only does Feng Shui bring good luck and fortune to your home, but it can also help enhance your love life as well. The best place to begin this Chinese Art of Feng Shui is in the bedroom. Why? Because it is the one room in the house where we spend 1/3 of our lives dressing, sleeping, resting and most importantly, cuddling.
In Feng Shui, the bed is very important because it is intimately connected to our personal energy. A solid wooden bed with a headboard is an ideal choice. Always remember, a solid bed will equal a solid life. The bed should also rest against a solid wall, for protection and security. Although water beds can be loads of fun, it is not recommended for good Feng Shui in the bedroom. Also, get rid of the full size bed and switch to a queen size bed. A full size bed will feel too small and uncomfortable for a couple to sleep in. A queen size bed is big enough for a couple to sleep in and small enough to bring them closer together.
When laying in bed, you should always be able to see the entrance door. This will help you feel more secure and in control of your life. Avoid positioning the bed in front of a doorway. The Ancient Chinese consider this to be the "death position" because your feet are pointing directly to the door, mimicking a coffin. This bed position will drain all the passion and energy right out of you, which is not a good thing when it comes to love.
Make sure there is an equal balance on each side of the bed, for equality in the relationship and in the bedroom. Avoid placing the bed next to a wall at all cost! The person who sleeps next to the wall will feel trapped and in need of more space in the relationship. A great way to create a sense of balance is placing matching night stands on each side of the bed. Arranging everything in pairs will also symbolize a union. For example, two flowers in a vase instead of just one.
The sheets on your bed are also very important because it is always close to the body. Choose sheets that are comfortable and breathable, such as those made of natural cotton, bamboo or silk. Avoid polyester or other synthetic fabrics. Lay in peach or pink bedding if you are looking for love. Choose red linens if you are looking for passion and more energy.

The Jade Plant and Braided Pachira Money Trees
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lin_Mai]Lin Mai
Money trees are what we call particular trees that are well looked after and placed ideally, that encourage prosperity and wealth luck.
In feng shui there are trees in particular that are more auspicious than others. These trees are the jade plant and braided pachira tree.
Jade plants have leaves that resemble jade, hence its name. These leaves are succulent, thick and green. They also look a little like small round green coins, which also make them great little money trees.
The jade plant is so termed a money plant because of its leaves that resemble the precious gemstone of Asia. There, jade is highly valued as being a fortunate and auspicious stone.
The braided pachira is often the more common money tree. It's also quite a unique tree to look at. The stalk of the tree is sectioned into four to seven segments and actually interwoven together or "braided".
In contrast to the jade plant, the leaves of the braided pachira are longer and thinner, although also green in color.
A truly lucky braided pachira is one which is braided from five sections and contains stalks each containing five leaves. The number five represents the balance of the five elemental energies of earth, fire, water, wood and metal in feng shui.
These beautiful money trees can be made even luckier by incorporating these five elements into its display.
It then needs to be placed in particular areas of a room that are conducive to the certain type of luck you wish to attract.
They can be placed in any room of your house except the bedrooms. They also make great additions to the dcor of a work place, study or office desk.
These plants also make excellent gifts. Whoever is lucky enough to receive one of these as a present will be essentially receiving the gift of wealth. Giving someone a money tree is really giving someone a gift that just keeps on giving.
Both these plants need to be well looked after and maintained. This shouldn't be difficult as they are quite hardy plants to keep. Give the jade plant or braided pachira plenty of sunshine and make sure you don't over-water them.
A sick or dying money tree has the opposite effect of drawing bad luck and misfortune to it, so make sure these trees are happy and healthy at all times. A happy, flourishing money tree means your bank account will also flourish.

Outdoor Fountains and the Flow of Wealth Energy in Your Garden
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lin_Mai]Lin Mai
In feng shui, the energy surrounding your house is just as influential on the home and people in it, as the energy in the dwelling. This is something we sometimes forget to address.
The energy flow of your garden can be active and dynamic or slow and blocked. This can influence the quality of life for you and your family.
The energy in your garden needs to flow freely, but take heed that if it flows too fast, this can cause turbulence in your surroundings.
Your garden and you may benefit from introducing outdoor fountains or ponds to your yard, as water is associated with prosperity and wealth luck. Your garden and your family will also benefit from the peacefulness and relaxation that a fountain or pond can provide.
The water element is also used to control the flow of chi so it can aid in increasing the speed of flow of the energy of your garden or slow it down. Whether you want a pond, outdoor water fountain or a waterfall, you need to place it in the right area of the garden to get the most benefit.
Let's focus on the outdoor fountains as these are the easiest to setup and maintain, as opposed to ponds and waterfalls.
This is a very important point when choosing an outdoor water fountain: make sure your fountain is in a good proportion to your house.
Too small in proportion and it will be weak and make you feel weak and vulnerable. You will always feel like you don't have enough energy yourself, constantly feeling lethargic.
In contrast outdoor fountains that are too large in proportion to the house can make you feel very overwhelmed. You may even have the feeling like you're drowning or suffocating trying to keep up.
This can also affect your career progress. A good-sized water fountain, not the same size mind you, but in relation to the house will provide the best balance of energy.
It is best to place the fountain in either the career, family or wealth areas of your garden according to the bagua map. This will depend on which area you want to attract luck energy too.
Outdoor fountains are also ideally placed in a position that allows the water to flow towards the direction of the house, not away from it as the water should symbolize money coming in to the house.

Feng Shui and Real Estate Disclosures
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kartar_Diamond]Kartar Diamond
Standing on the curb with my client and his real estate agent, we were all discussing the house he was interested in buying. Out of nowhere, a woman came dashing across the street and she obviously knew we had just viewed the property we were standing in front of. She then blurted out, "Just want you to know that anyone who lives there WILL get harassed and sued by the neighbor next door." She then ran back into her house. For whatever reason, she was compelled to tell us and at that point my client said, "Let's get out of here; I already have enough legal problems."
If you have bought or sold property you will be familiar with disclosure laws or "surprises" that can be realized after purchase. Even I once lived on a street where a crazy elderly lady regularly threatened and sued the neighbors on either side of her house. This unassuming grandmother also slashed tires and poisoned neighborhood pets. The rap sheet on her got so thick that anyone living next door who put their house up for sale (often), actually had to disclose to prospective buyers that this person would likely cause them trouble. The disturbed woman eventually had to do community service and I think she was also court ordered to get mental health services.
But what about problems not disclosed? One of my clients only realized after she bought her condo that the main security gate for the underground parking garage was right under her unit, opening and closing a hundred times a day. Another client found out from fellow tenants, after signing a lease that a freight train rumbles by the building between 3 and 6 a.m. every morning.
In a Feng Shui analysis, we are not psychics, so if there is an objectionable noise or smell or something else offensive happening on a regular basis, we won't necessarily be aware of it, if it doesn't happen while we're doing an assessment. Checking out the exterior environment thoroughly before you buy or lease is critical because there can be circumstances you might not be able to change at all. Living near an airport? A fire station? An auto-mechanic shop? Try your best to make sure you won't be bombarded by obnoxious sounds, smells, or views.
Other things happen beyond our control after moving in. More than once I've had a client consider moving when a neighbor added on a second story that either blocked a great view or even cast a chronic shadow on their house, making it too dark in a room frequently used.
These disappointments are not necessarily omens for more troubles to come; they are just annoying on a mundane level and it can certainly be viewed as a Feng Shui problem if chronic or severe. In a classical Feng Shui analysis, we can tell if an occupant may encounter legal problems, although hardly can we be so specific to predict that the legal problems would come from a neighbor.
Usually a home inspection will reveal a number of flaws that can translate into Feng Shui problems if they are not attended to, such as asbestos, plumbing, electrical or roof problems. Whenever there is something in ill-repair, there can be a correlation on a metaphysical level. For example, if the foundation is cracked in the northwest sector of the house, this could indicate problems for the father in the house or also create head or lung problems for any of the family members. If there is a serious plumbing problem, it could affect the occupants' digestion or urinary tract. When someone is just renting, they may not be given the same rights as a buyer to find out about flaws in or around the home.
One of the more serious disclosures, recognized by the real estate industry, is telling a prospective buyer when there has been a violent death on the premises. This disclosure must be relayed if it happened within three years of selling the property. I happen to have a neighbor who may or may not know that a man killed his wife in her house because it happened about 5 years before she bought and the disclosure clause had expired. Lingering "yin" energies and even hauntings can result from violent deaths on a property.
Some Feng Shui practitioners provide house hunting services, specifically so people can avoid certain situations where they may be no satisfactory solution to the problem. Some circumstances just need to be avoided.

The Mysteries of Water in Feng Shui
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Kartar_Diamond]Kartar Diamond
Much has been written about water in the scope of Feng Shui influences and yet the specific applications for water still elude the general public. This is because we have many theories in the Xuan Kong Flying Star School which need to be learned through actual training. Otherwise, someone might assume that a water feature, like a fountain or pond, is always a good asset to a property, which is actually not the case. In fact, someone could innocently place a water feature in an area that could attract crime or reduce the occupant's financial potential.
Every twenty Year Era as defined by the Xuan Kong School, has both ideal as well as worst placement for water for both the interiors and exteriors. The current 20 Year Era known as Period 8 started in 2004. The previous Era, Period 7, started in 1984 and the one before that started in 1964. We have 9 Eras, each lasting 20 years and then they repeat perpetually. This is why if you read a book or article that says something generic like "water in the north is good," this is clearly erroneous. It might be true some of the time for some of the people, but not all of the people all of the time. This very article was inspired by a client asking for advice on where to place a pool that will be a safe and good area for the next thirty plus years.
In the classical schools we also have water placement formulas just based on the orientation of a house, such as the "Castle Gate" formulas, although I would personally never ignore factors which have to do with the age of the house. Sometimes that cancels out another place to put water on a property. Some practitioners, who have had next to no classical training, believe that placing water in the north sector of a house is appropriate. This could be because the direction of north is inherently associated with water. But this is less than half the story. In the "Pre-Heaven Sequence" of the trigrams, the Lo Shu, the direction of North is associated with the Kun trigram, which is an "earth" trigram as opposed to the Kan trigram which is related to water.
This simplified way of looking at the symbolism of the trigrams has not even considered the annual influences involved. For example, in the year 2011 the annual influence in the north is the visiting 3 star, related to gossip and legal problems. Adding water to the north in 2011 could exacerbate this situation. That same annual 3 will move over to the southwest in 2012.
As a long time consultant, I would like the public to know that Feng Shui has many wonderful things to offer people, but in the same way that a lay-person could cause themselves harm by self-medicating, self-diagnosing, or relying on generalities, they could be seriously taken down the wrong path.
Another piece of information that is relevant could be the birth date of the occupant. Each person has a direction that is for them, personally, a bad location for water to come towards their house. The "Yang Ren" direction can cause harm to an occupant. For example, a person born in a year that ends in a 7 (1947, 1957, 1967, 1977) should not have water outside their house in the Sheep-Wei direction.
This is another related topic in terms of the direction in which water flows. Water can flow towards or away from a property. Infinity pools give the impression that water is leaving or moving away from a house. So even though they look cool, they may not provide the most supportive Feng Shui. Many ordinary fountain pumps will simply push water up from a lower level and then the water will cascade down several tiers. This movement of water going up and then down is usually harmless.
As you may have heard or read, the very word "shui" translates as water. It is one of the five elements used routinely in a Feng Shui assessment to help balance the energies of that local area. For instance, we could place water in a room to help reduce leg or back pain. We might use water in another context to help with business success. There are also applications of water use to help with relationships. So, water can be used, strategically for a variety of life issues, not just one area of concern.
Water needs to be clean and ideally circulating. Yin water is calm, still water and it could be too yin, causing health problems if it is stagnant or dirty. Yang water is very active water, and in balance with the environment can be fine as long as the water is not too yang. Out of control water could include hurricanes, tsunamis, and other water disasters. But even having a fountain that makes a harsh, unpleasing sound should be adjusted so that it does not have a chance to produce a negative response.

How to Create A Feng Shui Bedroom - 4 Simple Suggestions
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andre_Calzro]Andre Calzro
Feng shui is the ancient art of the Chinese that uses the laws of harmony of heaven and earth to improve the quality of life by channeling the positive energy of Qi or ch'i. Today, feng shui is not only practiced in China and other nearby Asian countries. The art has spread throughout the Western world. Feng shui can be applied in arranging many things: gardens, offices, homes, kitchens, even bedrooms. Here are some ideas to bring positive Qi into your bedroom:
1. Place your bed so that you can see the door.
Facing the door means that you are open to a lot of opportunities provided by the universe, which includes inspiration, insight and guidance during your sleep. Generally, placing the bed to face any direction is acceptable. However, you might not want to place the headboard to the West. In China, the west is believed to be the direction to which human souls travel.
2. Opt for five feng shui element colors to bring good energy to your room.
Five colors represent the five elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. Each element brings a different aura.
- Water is the energy of calmness, freshness, purity, curing and ease. Blue and black represent the water element.
- Wood is the energy of vitality, growth, prosperity, wealth and health. Brown and green represent the wood element.
- Fire is the energy of passion, which supports your career efforts. Red, purple, orange, pink, and strong yellow represent the fire element.
- Earth is the energy of nourishment, stability and protection. Light yellow and beige represent the earth element.
- Metal is the energy of precision, sharpness, clarity, efficiency and lightness. Gray and white represent the metal element.
Pick colors according to which energy you want to present in your bedroom. Harmonious combinations of each element are good to bring you balance in life.
3. Free your bedroom from all distractions.
Make your bedroom the place for rest, not for anything else. Do you keep your exercise bike, a TV set, or even a work desk in the bedroom? This is a major mistake. To have quality sleep, your bedroom should be free of all such distractive elements.
4. Let the air flow in.
To allow fresh air into your bedroom, open the window often or turn on the air-purifier. To receive positive Qi, you need to have fresh air that is free of pollutants. Plants growing in the bedroom are not good for feng shui. However, if your bedroom is very large, you can put a plant or two if they are located far away from the bed.

Using Crystals As Feng Shui Enhancements - Lapis Lazuli
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_James_Laycock]Andrew James Laycock
Crystals make beautiful and positive enhancements to any home. In Feng Shui they are used to promote a balanced and harmonious flow of energy through the home. In this series of articles I focus on some of the most popular crystals that are used in Feng Shui and cover the different ways in which they can be used. In this article I focus on the intensely blue and beautiful Lapis Lazuli.
Lapis Lazuli promotes calmness, serenity and balance and these stones have a number of different uses in Feng Shui. The energy associated with these stones is very yin and so can be placed in any of the yin areas of your home. These cover the relationship, children and creativity, helpful friends and career areas of your home which are in the south west, west, north west and north. If you want to strengthen and enhance the energies in any of these areas of your life placing these stones there can be very beneficial.
Placing two of these stones in the relationship or helpful friends areas can strengthen the bond between two people. The stones are associated with trust and truth so if you doubt the motives of a person in your life you can offer them a stone as a gift. If you are placing Lapis Lazuli in the relationship area of your home always remember to place these in pairs. I prefer to place crystals as part of a larger decoration in the relationship area, a beautiful decoration using Lapis Lazuli is to place the stones around two white or pink candles and surround these with two angels, cherubs or doves.
In the children and creativity area of your home the placement of these stones can help to open your mind to new possibilities. In the career area of your home the placing of these stones can help stimulate the growth of a new business or help to seek clarity and objectivity in your career goals. In both of these areas place the stones in a glass or metal bowl that is either circular or has free flowing lines as these areas are represented by metal and water.
However you use these stones in your home their beauty can enhance an existing decoration or can make a beautiful small decoration in their own right. Take care of them, touch them often and keep them out of direct sunlight and they will bring you joy for many years to come.

Using Crystals As Feng Shui Enhancements - Green Fluorite
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_James_Laycock]Andrew James Laycock
Crystals make beautiful enhancements to any home. In Feng Shui they are often used to lift the energy in a space and promote a balanced and harmonious flow of chi. In this series of articles I look at the most popular crystals that are used in Feng Shui and the different ways in which they can be used. This article focuses on Green Fluorite.
Green Fluorite is a beautiful stone and one of my all time personal favourites. When placing these stones in the home they can help to strengthen the family area so are useful to place either in the family area of your home or in the main living room. Beautiful as a decoration in their own right I prefer to use them as part of a larger decoration. In my own home I have Green Fluorite stones on a narrow wooden tray with bamboo and dark green scented candles in the living room.
If you have disharmony in your relationships with your immediate or extended family, then placing Green Fluorite in either your family area or the living room of your home can help to bring balance and a common understanding. Green Fluorite is a very calming stone and can help repair damaged relationships and heal conflict. To help to heal broken relationships place Green Fluorite stones around family photographs as they can help to promote positive energy around the family group.
As well as helping and supporting family relationships, Green Fluorite can also be helpful in the gaining of new knowledge as it can promote an orderly mind and bring new ideas and solutions. Place Green Fluorite in your home office or in the knowledge area of your home and spend some time in this area of the home when you are studying. When you have finished studying, spend fifteen or twenty minutes in quiet contemplation focusing on the stone. This can be a very powerful way in which to aid the retention of the new knowledge that you have learnt, and can be even more powerful if you light an orange candle in the room as well. If you are using an orange candle in conjunction with this enhancement always ensure that you are in the room while the candle is lit.
I hope that this article has given you some useful information on how Green Fluorite can be used in your home. It truly is a beautiful stone and can make a lovely enhancement either on its own or as part of a larger decoration.

Using Crystals As Feng Shui Enhancements - Citrine
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_James_Laycock]Andrew James Laycock
Crystals are very popular Feng Shui enhancements. As well as supporting the flow of harmonious energy and lifting the energy in a space they make a stunning visual decoration in their own right. In this series of articles I focus on some of the most popular crystals that are used in Feng Shui, turning my attention here to the lovely sunny yellow Citrine.
Citrine is an extremely powerful crystal and can have a number of uses in the home. Citrine's energy is very yang and because of this Citrine crystals can be placed in any of the yang areas of the home. Looking at your house these are the areas of the house that cover the north east, east, south east and south and represent knowledge, family, wealth and self esteem.
If you want to strengthen the energies in any of these areas, placing Citrine crystals can be an easy and effective way to offer support. In the knowledge area placing a bowl of Citrine crystals can help your creativity and confidence. In the family area Citrine can help bring joy to your family get togethers, and if you are suffering from low self esteem placing Citrine in the fame and self esteem area of the home can give your ego a bit of a boost.
Citrine crystals carry the energy of the sun and are beautiful to have around the home as their bright yellow colour can really uplift the energy in any space. They are especially good to have in the bathroom which as a functional room can sometimes feel a bit neglected. If you want to use these crystals in the bathroom they can be placed either in a bowl by the side of the bath or behind the toilet.
The most common and well known use for Citrine crystals is as a wealth cure. If you would like to attract money in to the home, placing 8 citrine crystals in your wealth area can be very beneficial.
My favourite wealth cure using Citrine crystals is to place 8 crystals in a wooden box in to which you have also placed a small denomination note. This can be placed in your wealth area or in your most auspicious area as determined by your Kua number (for more
information on Kua numbers please visit my Feng Shui website). My most auspicious direction for wealth and success is South East, which perfectly matches with the wealth area and corresponds to the entrance hall in my home. I have a wealth cure placed on a table by my front door and I regularly touch it as I pass whilst saying a quick affirmation.

Using Crystals As Feng Shui Enhancements - Carnelian
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_James_Laycock]Andrew James Laycock
Crystals make wonderful Feng Shui enhancements. In this series of articles I look at some of the most popular crystals that are used in Feng Shui and give an insight in to how they can be used in your home. In this article I turn my attention to Carnelian a crystal that has incredibly strong energy and can be used in many areas of the home.
Carnelian is one of those crystals which has such strong energy that it can be used to enhance a number of different areas in your home. As a yang stone it can be used to strengthen the energy in any of the yang areas or to lift the energy in any neglected or dark spaces in the house. The yang areas of your home start in the north east and move to the south and represent the knowledge, family, wealth and self esteem areas.
Probably the best known use of Carnelian is as a stone of abundance. For this reason many people place Carnelian at the entrance to the home. Placing a bowl of Carnelian crystals just inside your home next to the front door can give the impression that you are open to and encouraging success and abundance through your door. If your front door is situated in a yin area (starting in the south west and moving through to the north) then to ensure that Carnelian does not overpower the calming yin energy ensure that the crystals are placed in either a circular or freeflowing glass or metal bowl as this will help to balance the elements.
As well as being known as a stone of abundance Carnelian can also help bring courage, success and willpower. If you are in need of support in any of these areas of your life then placing Carnelian in the self esteem area of your home can be very beneficial. Carnelian crystals can be used as a small display in their own right as they are beautiful deep coloured stones, or they can be made part of a larger display. In the self esteem area of your home they can be made in to a very powerful display with red or orange candles. When using candles as a Feng Shui enhancement the power comes from when the candle is lit so always make sure that you are in the room when you light the candle and never leave it unattended.

I hope that you have found this article useful, and it has given you an insight in to how Carnelian crystals can be used in your home.
